The A, B, C, and D's of Medicare", topic for three MLK Day of Service events


The League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County is presenting three events on Medicare in connection with the 2020 MLK Day of Service in Tampa. Angela Birdsong, an expert on Medicare and a League member, will speak on "The A, B, C, and D's of Medicare" at events in Ybor City, Temple Terrace, and Tampa.

These events will take place as follows:- Saturday, Jan 11 at Allen Temple AME Church (Ybor City), 2101 Lowe St, Tampa, FL 33605;- Monday, Jan 13 at Omar K. Lightfoot Center, 10901 N 56th St, Temple Terrace, FL 33617; and- Friday, Jan 24 at Cyrus Green Community Center, 2101 E. Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, FL 33603. All events will take place from 12 - 2 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees are asked to reserve their spot by calling (813) 649-4309. Presented by the League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County, these events are also sponsored by the City of Tampa, the City of Temple Terrace, Allendale Temple AME Church, Davita Medical Group, and Silver Sneakers. Birdsong has focused her career on navigating the complex Medicare Program. She has spent years working with baby boomers, retirees and disabled persons on Social Security to transition them to Medicare with clarity and understanding. She is recognized for her Medicare expertise and her ability to simplify the program. The National MLK Day of Service was created in 1994 through federal legislation, implemented in St. Petersburg in 2013, and was recently expanded to include Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota and Broward Counties. The grant program is intended to encourage service projects that enable recipients to address a wide range of community and public safety issues, including health, while collaborating with local community organizations. The League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County supports efforts to educate and increase awareness of healthcare issues and services by being advocates for enhanced health equity with an emphasis on Affordable Health Care, Medicare, Medicaid expansion and reproductive rights and services. The League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.Currently there are almost 300 active members in Hillsborough County continuously working together to support its community.
