May 14th was the first official Fresh Friday open to the public. We celebrated the birthdays of Naaman Johnson Jr., LaFern Batie, Attorney Barbara Pittman and Freddie Moore’s. Starting at 6pm, DJ TP set the ambience for the evening with old school classics.
Earlier this year, so that we could maintain some sanity during the pandemic, my wife, Tampa Bay Tammy, called a few friends to come out to the radio station and hang outside with us and listen to music. They all brought a dish to share, cigars to smoke and something to drink. We played Bid Whist and enjoyed the evening while practicing social distancing. Thus our Fresh Friday was born!
Fresh Friday’s will alternate Fridays with a Live Local Band and Karaoke with Kass. Hosted on the THAP Business campus at 5508 N. 50th Street off Hillsborough in the heart of Tampa, the Courtyard is the perfect outdoor venue. This past Fresh Fridays band was organized by well known legendary FAMU Marching 100 musician and educator, Andre Walker. Some may remember Andre Walker from the Blue Martini with the Band ‘Evidence’. Well Andre went back to his roots and renamed his new band, The Mighty Good and Strong Band. Plus, JT the Dancing DJ and line dancing, stepping queen Bonnie Lady Glam taught a few line dances. Fresh Friday, May 28th will be “Karaoke with Kass.” So bring a song in your heart and some cash to support the vendors and enjoy an evening under the stars. On Fresh Friday June 11th, the scheduled Band is Paula Watkins & Company. If you have a special occasion you can reserve a VIP table, otherwise it’s free if you register at EventBrite.
