A Star is Rising in the East - East Tampa

Sister Nayyirah Muhammad, a rising star in the Nation of Islam, was recently promoted to Assistant Student Regional Minister for the 7th Region in the Nation of Islam. Her new job entails assisting the Student Regional Minister in the Resurrection Process. The process includes the reeducation and reformation of the minds of spiritually, emotionally, economically mentally and socially dead people. She travels throughout the 7th region which includes Florida, Central & South America and the Caribbean.

Introduced to Islam by her dad, her mother had the tradition of praying in. While going through a divorce her mother brought her to Sr. Student Minister James Muhammad when she was crying and alI she could hear was what Minister James Muhammad said, that “a pregnant women shouldn’t be bothered because the emotions go into the baby.” Though she didn’t join the Nation at that time, it was the introduction to the religion that filled her heart and that was all she needed. Coming into the Nation she was put on a post to train young ladies. Training included how to sew, keep house, rear children, how to take care of a husband, how to cook and in general how to act at home and abroad. These are foundational principles for the Black woman in the Nation. According to Sister Nayyirah, it’s been a lost art in the African American community, so for 19 years, she has served as Student Sister Captain in NOI until her recent promotion.

Minister Louis Farrakhan says you must be a student first and by being in that position of learning it keeps from having Big I’s and Little U’s. Sister Nayrriah has discovered herself in the Nation and believes her skills, talent and expertise helps to bring the feminine side of the teachings of Minister Elijah Muhammad. The ladies of the Nation recently put on a fashion show depicting the dress and headgear. The woman is covered from head to toe and in that covering It is symbolic to the covering of her mind. The headpiece represents knowledge, wisdom and understanding but a separation from the world because they are not of the world, but are in the world. This style of dress represents that they are disciples of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and students of the honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. This dress also, represents the ancestry dressing that has been around for over 400 years. Sister Nayyirah points out First Corinthians, chapter 11:5-6 which reads “5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.” To get the full context read verses 1 through 10.

Now married to Brother Dawud Muhammad, Sister Nayyirah is truly a rising star in the Nation of Islam and a shining example to all the young ladies that she teaches and mentors. The name Nayyirah means shining, luminous, bright and brilliant. She is rising in the east!
