2022 Black and Gold Scholarship Ball hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha

Updated: Dec 23, 2022

The annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball was a well attended grand affair, held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at The Venetian Event Center in Tampa, Florida. Hosted by the GZL Educational Foundation and the Gamma Zeta Lamda (GZL) chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. this fund raising event supports the Men of Tomorrow (MOT) Program.

The Men of Tomorrow program is open to middle and high school male students and is dedicated to “Empowering the Next Generation Today, Developing Leaders of Tomorrow” through mentorship, guidance, preparation and exposure to opportunities that help students complete high school and enroll in college. This year’s theme, “Legacy: Making an Impact that Matters,” was evident throughout the event.

The Ball had a record number of sponsors and sponsorship dollars. Furthermore, a new partnership with the Florida Prepaid College Program was forged, the MOT Program partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters (BBBS) of Tampa Bay that was announced at last year’s Ball was recognized for the impact it has had in two short years. Through the partnership, the GZL Educational Foundation has expanded its ability to motivate and mentor male students from under served communities while BBBS has increased its ability to pair youth with committed, positive role models in the community.

This year’s Ball featured eight graduating MOT participants, whose grade point averages range from 3.0 to 4.7. Each senior received a new laptop. For the first time, MOT seniors were awarded one and two-year college scholarships they will receive upon meeting final senior requirements.

In addition to witnessing a memorable presentation by MOT seniors, Ball attendees enjoyed an evening of organizational awards, live music, dinner, professional photography, a cocktail hour, 360 video photography and dancing.
