Calling the Tampa Bay Community to join all Kappas, Silhouettes, and supporters as we celebrate and recognize some of the brightest young men representing Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity’s Guide Right programs from across the country.
The National Guide Right Program is the oldest and most successful mentoring organization for young people of color. Guide Right encompasses many of our youth-oriented programs such as mentoring, college preparatory programs, and tutoring.
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, at The Tampa Bay Convention Center, East Hall, we will showcase the talent portion of our Student of the Year competition, starting at 2:30 PM EST. Past performances have included dance, entrepreneurial demonstrations, instrumentals, oratory expressions, song, and spoken word. In addition to exhibiting talent, Student of the Year applications are inclusive of Extracurricular Activities, Awards/Honors, Guide Right Involvement, and Career Profile/Personal Statement.
Immediately following in the same room at 5:00 PM EST we will announce the winning chapters of our National Guide Right Awards. Presentations will be made for Social Justice for Social Good, Kappa League TV Awards, Mentor of the Year, Undergraduate Guide Right Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Guide Right Member, Guide Right Director of the Year (Alumni), Guide Right Director of the Year (Undergrad), and Most Outstanding Guide Right Program.
The premiere attraction of the evening will be St Louis Kappa League and Belleville-O’Fallon Kappa League squaring off in an epic battle during the Annual National Kappa League debate competition.
Belleville-O’Fallon is the defending 2022 champion and St Louis is the 2021 champion. These two chapters will be putting it all on the line for a shot at the $1500.00 grand prize. The event will be streamed live on Kappa League TV. Come out and bring your future leaders to experience a live debate! We would love for you to support and celebrate these young men of achievement.
The Guide Right program currently has 8,022 students in various programs in 197 chapters worldwide, including Japan and the Dominican Republic. This program is a true testament that mentorship works for our youth and the stats tell a compelling story. Currently, 70.74% of Guide Right students graduate college within six years, and 96% of Guide Right students graduate high school.
